Fashion Consumption: I

Photos by Andre Rau the Marrakech villa of Yves Saint Laurent, posing with his muse and dear friend Catherine Deneuve

I was always shared between: making the iconic fashion or being the designer’s muse..

I decided to wear just one “jacket”, & make it reversible to my liking.

When I heard Catherine Deneuve was making an auction sale of her YSL pieces, I couldn’t help but wonder what would i do with mine, when my day would come, and so I wrote…

One day, when I will be older the only good reason for me to leave my garde-robe, is when I will leave this world. I heard that Elisabeth II (and many other Queens) has a very strict archives of outfits worn: what, when, where.

That always fascinated me, maybe one of the reason I started doing daily photos from my looks. Sometimes I change up to 3 times a day, and most of my outfits are only wore once. Not because I am a fashion victim of consumption, but because everyday is unique.

I wear my “Sunday best” everyday because everyday is a party to celebrated (now Madonna Holiday 1983 running in my head!)

I don’t buy fast fashion, I don’t buy trendy or new. I buy cheap, thrift and find old and forgotten. One’s woman misery is an other one’s joy. YES. I don’t have anything against couture. In fact i love it, and i don’t mind a single bit putting 1000 euros in a hand embellished one of a kind dressed.

What i do mind is putting a 1000 euros in a pants that looks the same as an H&M pants for 10 euros. Both ends of this chains are wrong. We need to live a bit more far from the edges and understand the power of our surrounding environment. Buying local is sooooo important, buying less is also a steppingstone to a more sustainable future.

I don’t like vintage JUST because it’s pretty, I like the vintage state of mind, of “do well, last long, take care and pass it on” . I don’t mind wearing vintage fur, because even tho it’s an animal, it has been dead since 40 years. I will it never buy new, but i would never throw away goods ether.

People in the street may think “she’s a animal killed” but i am a planet saver, because, if your convictions are so strong it make wasting & trashing socially acceptable, then i can’t stand by your side defending animal rights.

I stand for earth first of all, I try to be the flower that blooms in the concrete, i will be the Esmeralda of the cathedrals picking in the market trash, because what i do is not only for myself: it’s to bring sunshine into the street, to make you think twice about the “cover of my book”, to make people familiar and unknown realize money is not the answer.

Don’t worry, be happy.

If you are in Paris, the dresses will be on diplay at Christie’s Auction House in Paris from 19 to 24th of January.

Apokalipstick Party

The pleasure in the art of dressing up ! Various inspirations make and outfit what it is. This was a “Zombie Apocalypse” event I has working at. The main idea for this look was “Sherif” -referring to Walking Dead main character Rick Grimes a Serif who awoke to find the world plunge into a zombie Apocalypse disaster.- as I don’t like the zombie movement, might as well fight it!

Victorian lace up boots and Cow Boy hat, cactus earring from the 70’s. Bustier and lift up skirt referring to 50’s pin up and illustrations, a little bit victorian “débauché” feeling, some steampunk vibs.

The cape was made by my mother and I in our little independent label Madame et son Lapin Blanc. Vivien Westwood vibs, because as long as there is a dash of red tartan fabric it screams WW! The capeline shapes are typical 19th century coats, with some fur added for extra glamour. I’m very proud of this pieces, you will see it again around here!

Have a great day

“The century of the self”

A must see, highly interesting documentary on the construction of our modern behaviour of consumption. Through this documentary I discovered many interesting things and among them Edward Bernays, conceptor of the marketing and public relation as we know them today. Especially love the small part about  how he  transformed the way we view women smoking, changing the cigarette into a symbol of empowerment, calling it “the torch of Freedom”. I appreciate greatly how he annalized human behavior using Sigmund Freud’s theory and apply it to make the mass buy things they don’t “need” but “desire”. I invite you to comment on your feedback so we can discuss further into the subject !

The best way to spent 3 hours of your life.

Ps: I added Edward Bernays books to my wish list, you should too !

Home, is where your cloths are!

Eris: All Female Exhibit / KBB

I was a part of a great project last May in Berlin involving exclusively female artist for a one night only exhibition at the Urban Spree Gallery.

During the evening I was spreading the good vibes with some hand made “Døn’t Wørry Be Happy” fortune: “it’s up to you to make it good!” I was saying while distributing them. Some people seem to take less value in the words written when they saw the friend had the same. In truth the message is universal it does take away anything from the speech.

A shot of my installation for “Eris: all female exhibit.” last march in Berlin.
Love notes on see through parchemin with photographic diptych. Self portrait “Candore”, video projection & ephemeral installation. Here a close up from one of the Love Notes.

When I arrived here, it though I saw a old friend, like a mirage of myself. when i started thinking over the date of the last post I though to myself ”Ho it wasn’t that long ago, that I last wrote here. Spreading a little bit of truth and a little bit of dreams… 31th oct.. ”
That was 361 days ago.
In the meanwhile life happened.

To follow us around the world, find us on Instagram. but first, Introduction to the project…
The Chaøs Chønicles allow us to discover the world through the eyes of an iconoclast globe trottingcouple; a father, Lukas Zpira and his Daughter Maÿliss.Without any real itinerary, plan, or budget, but hungry for experiences, they travel the world often stepping off the beaten tracks, guided by incredible encounters. Between utopia and dystopia, their quest interrogates our convictions and leaves us filled with a strange mixture of hope and melancholy.

This world, Maÿliss has been observing it through the underground of sub cultures while travelling alongside her father since she was 5 years old. With this nomadic lifestyle, Lukas invites Maÿliss to an alternative type of education based on experiences, far from the school benches. She celebrates her sixteenth birthday in the middle of the United States during their first Chrønicles, and has since been observing our world through the lens of her camera «like through a microscope». Via these journeys and their most interesting encounters, we witness through the eyes of this atypical duo and the plurality of their perspective, an era oscillating between a past that will not die and a future yet to be born.

We rediscover our world with them. Maÿliss avidly soaking up everything she can, meanwhile Lukas is leaning more toward an analysis and assessment. The tasks are set naturally. Maÿliss is in charge of the photography and keeps the travel diary while Lukas writes. Both of them film images as well, though Maÿliss is most often on the forefront through interviews. Lukas is more withdrawn, appearing mostly via voice over narration. This dichotomy entices us to rethink our world which we often only see through the prisms of our certitudes.

Multimedia storytelling, these Chønicles began in 2010 but are an ongoing project that writes itself as the journey continues.
The project was born from a text, a manifesto uploaded on a simple blog. The first photographs appear and set the mood. The stage set like surroundings of our lives slowly starts to crumble to pieces, like the paint on a wall begins to chip off and we begin to see the other side, like peeking backstage. We discover through the images abandoned places, forgotten individuals, isolation, exclusion zones and those of the temporary autonomy (TAZ). We get a glimpse of the transition spaces of our world, its capacity to mutate and our ability to adapt.
The images proliferate and kilometres accumulate.

In early 2014, a team begins to take shape and enables the project to evolve, taking on its various forms. First in a transmedia dimension; merging short films, photography and essays, all accessible on a multi platform website or immersive installations, but the project has the ambition of going further with the elaboration of long feature films and books. So far Lukas and Maÿliss have started to work on 3 different Chrønicles; «U.S. Cøast to Cøast», «Central America» and «The Rise and Fall of Europe». They plan to go to Japan as well to begin a new Chrønicle «From Hiroshima to Fukushima» and hope to do one trip a year covering various countries or areas of the globe.

Rumble in the Jungle

Always in my mind – Respect for the champ’ the man, the one and only.

Wish I could have met you before you left us, but I know the next Bee that’ll sting me it’ll be you. Ode to Ali, my champ’ next to Daddy.

“Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they’ve been given than to explore the power they have to change it.
Impossible is not a fact.
It’s an opinion.
Impossible is not a declaration.
It’s a dare.
Impossible is potential.
Impossible is temporary.
Impossible is nothing.”

Muhammad Ali

Once upon a time…

… the grass was green everywhere, there was no sides. Burn the houses to the ground and take me back. I will dance for the sun, and wear it’s light sheet as if it was the most beautiful dress, a dress of a sheer and flesh-colored marquisette fabric, with 2,500 shimmering rhinestones sewn into it.
